My First Night Seder in Hong Kong by Andrew Owen When my flight (BA!) was booked months ago and I agreed to meet customers in Hong Kong, Pesach never entered my mind. We were busy planning our trip to Sydney (for my nephew’s wedding) …..and I just said ‘yes, fine’ knowing it wasn’t crossing with that trip.
When Julie pointed out I would be away for most of Pesach, I couldn’t believe it. I immediately made enquiries through a friend of my sister’s (who with her husband lives part of the year in Hong Kong for his business) who said ‘I’ll get you into the Seder at our Shul in Hong Kong’…and knowing her, that was that.

The Communal Seder held on 30 March [second night] was a great success with over 80 people attending. Led by Rabbi Keren, guests joined in with prayers and singing and enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by outside caterers.
Unfortunately we were not able to accept late bookings, so please note your diaries for next year; to avoid disappointment - book early!

The Caring Committee held a massive "cook-in" on Sunday, preparing dishes for the freezer which will be given to those of our members at appropriate times. This is a concept adopted by many synagogues and much appreciated by a bereaved family to have a prepared meal given to them on A Friday night. Our thanks to the Committee for their kindness and generosity for those in need.

The Nursery had chicks again this year after taking one dozen hatching eggs, out of which seven produced live chicks. As last year, they grew very quickly and within three weeks were able to fly.
One chick went missing this week and was found nestled and quite happy in the nursery's toy oven. Obviously one little girl thought she was preparing Shabbat dinner!!
